Registration of Kiger Mustangs in the KHAR is a relatively fast process. You will find easy instructions below. We guarantee your registration certificate within 45 days if you have submitted all the necessary paperwork and photos for registration.

The KHAR studbook is divided into three divisions: Traditional, Appendix, and Partblood. Those horses in Traditional will have a "T" at the beginning of the registration number. Those horses in Appendix will have an "A" in their registration number, and those horses in Partblood will have a "P" in their registration number.

Recognized colors in the Traditional are: dun, grulla, red dun, bay and black. Any color or color pattern is allowed in the Appendix and Partblood division.

All horses except Partblood will be inspected and must pass to be placed in the Traditional Division. During inspection, the horse will be evaluated for basic conformation faults. Each trait is weighted to determine how detrimental they are for basic riding conformation and for breed recognition (breed type) traits. It is extremely important to have excellent photographs of your horse so that an accurate and fair evaluation can be made.

Instructions

To register your Kiger Mustang with Kiger Horse Association, please complete the following steps:

• Complete an application for registration. Click here for the registration forms.
• Complete a DNA kit for your horse or include a copy of your horse's DNA results if it has been DNA tested previously.
• Include copies of your horse's sire and dam DNA results, if they are available.
• Include copies of BLM paperwork if horse is from the wild.
• Include a copy of any previous registration with another registry.
• Take photographs of your horse showing conformation and markings. Click here for information on the proper way to photograph your horse. Sample photos have been included to help guide you.
• Send your application with the appropriate fee. The application and photos may be emailed or mailed to the registry address shown on the application. Click here to email the form. If you would like to pay the fees through PayPal, click here. DNA Kits must be mailed to the registry office.

Traditional & Appendix Application - For registering a purebred Kiger Mustang.

Partblood Application - For registering a partblood Kiger Mustang.

DNA Test Kit - Use this form to submit a DNA sample for testing. NOTE: If your horse has been tested with one of the other laboratories, you can supply that lab's DNA results in lieu of testing.

Breeder's Certificate - For providing a new owner of one of your horses with a Breeder's Certificate.

Stallion Report - For reporting if a stallion of yours has serviced mares this past year.

What happens to my application and materials sent in for registration?

When your application is received at the office of KHAR, it will be reviewed for completeness. The DNA kit or copy of DNA results will be sent to our DNA analysis lab. The pictures that you have sent will be reviewed to ensure that the necessary positions are there and that the horse can be visually inspected from the available photos. If the application is incomplete or if the photos are of insufficient quality, you will be immediately notified with a request for additional information or photos.

If your application is complete and photos are inspection-ready, then your horse's photos will be presented to inspectors for evaluation. At least two inspectors will evaluate your horse for common conformation faults and breed specific faults.
